Experience

2018-2025 | Doctoral research

South Dakota State University

Muyu’s doctoral work examined physiological and genetic aspects of root hydrotropism in maize. The work joined experimental-system design with quantitative measurement and analysis:

  • designed controlled experiments focused on root responses to water and gravity;
  • conducted comparative work involving maize, common bean, and additional plant species;
  • developed and applied a Hydrotropism Analyzer research system;
  • converted image and video records into quantitative traits using ImageJ, SMARTROOT, and IC Measure;
  • cleaned, analyzed, and visualized experimental and genetic data in R;
  • applied statistical methods suited to experimental, longitudinal, and genetic questions;
  • conducted genotype quality control and GWAS/QTL-oriented analysis using TASSEL and GAPIT;
  • prepared an English-language dissertation, scientific figures, and authored or co-authored research posters.

The work demonstrates an end-to-end research workflow: scientific question, controlled measurement, structured data, analysis, visualization, interpretation, and documented limitations.

2018-2024 | Undergraduate laboratory teaching

South Dakota State University, documented terms from Fall 2018 through Spring 2024

Taught laboratory sections in:

  • General Biology I and II;
  • Plant Physiology;
  • Introductory Cell Biology;
  • Genetics and Molecular Biology.

This record supports experience explaining biological and technical material in an English-language university setting. Student comments, ratings, and unverified teaching-award claims are not published.

Selected work evidence

  • doctoral dissertation on physiological and genetic studies of maize root hydrotropism;
  • coauthorship of a 2020 New Phytologist article on hydrotropism in maize primary roots;
  • authored or co-authored artifacts spanning quantitative plant phenotyping, root tropisms, candidate-gene analysis, and agricultural biological data;
  • reproducible technical publishing and evidence-control work demonstrated by this Quarto repository.
